Rates from when you shopped

Each receipt converts at the exchange rate from around the day you bought it, not whatever the rate happens to be today.

How it works

01

Set your household currency

Choose the currency everyone in your group should see amounts in. You can change it whenever you like.

02

Scan a receipt from anywhere

Traveling, or shopping across the border? Scan the receipt the same way you always do.

03

Convert it in a tap

Tell us the currency printed on the receipt and it is converted into your household currency, with the original kept underneath.

Who is this for?

Travelers and vacationers

Keep what you spent on groceries while traveling in the same running total as everything back home, so a trip never throws off your budget. It doubles as a travel expense tracker for the food you buy on the road.

People who moved countries

Carry your history with you. Old receipts and new ones live side by side in one currency.

Cross-border households

Shop on both sides of a border and still see one clean international grocery budget for the household.

01 — Multi-Currency

One currency for the whole household.

Set the currency your group reads and every amount in the app follows it. Totals, budgets, category charts, and savings all speak the same currency, so nobody in the household is doing conversions in their head. Change it whenever you need and everything re-labels at once.

02 — Multi-Currency

A receipt from abroad, in the money you actually use.

Scan a receipt you picked up on a trip or across the border, tell us the currency printed on it, and it is converted into your household currency at the exchange rate from around the day you shopped. The amounts you actually paid stay saved right underneath, so you can always check the receipt in your hand against the converted total.

03 — Multi-Currency

Foreign trips stop skewing your numbers.

An unconverted receipt in another currency quietly throws off your totals, because a hundred of one currency is not a hundred of another. Convert it and that trip folds cleanly into your spending, your budget, and your trends, counted in the same units as everything else. Nothing is overwritten, and you can undo the conversion any time you want the original back.

FAQ

How does converting a receipt work?

Open the receipt, choose the currency it was printed in, and Groceries Tracker converts every amount into your household currency using the exchange rate from around the day you shopped. The original amounts stay saved underneath, and you can undo the conversion at any time.

Which currencies are supported?

Over 160 currencies are supported, from the ones you would expect like the US dollar, euro, pound, and yen, to smaller regional currencies that most apps leave out. Any of them can be your household currency, and a receipt printed in any of them can be converted into it.

How do I track grocery spending in a different currency?

Set your household currency once, then scan receipts the way you normally would. Whenever a receipt is in a foreign currency, open it and pick the currency it was printed in. Groceries Tracker works like a currency converter and turns every amount into your household currency at the exchange rate from around the day you shopped, so all of your grocery spending stays in one currency no matter where you bought it.

What exchange rate is used?

A receipt converts at the market exchange rate from around the day you bought it, not today's rate. It is the mid-market rate, so it may differ slightly from what your bank or card charged, which usually adds a small fee on top. The date the rate came from is always shown on the receipt.

Are the original amounts kept?

Yes. Converting never overwrites anything. The amounts printed on your receipt are always saved next to the converted ones, so you can check either, and you can revert a conversion to get back exactly what you scanned.

Can I change my household currency?

Yes, any accepted member of the group can change it, and every amount in the app re-labels to the new currency. Changing your household currency does not re-convert past receipts. It changes how amounts are displayed.

Does this work with shared groups?

Yes. The household currency is a group setting, so everyone in the group sees amounts in the same currency, and a receipt converted by one member is converted for everyone.

What is the best app for tracking grocery expenses while traveling abroad?

If you shop for groceries while traveling abroad, a multi-currency app keeps every trip in one place. Scan the receipts you pick up overseas, convert them into your home currency with the built-in exchange rate calculator, and they fold into the same totals and budget as your shopping back home, so nothing gets lost across currencies.

Is currency conversion free?

Setting your household currency is available to everyone. Converting individual receipts into your household currency is part of the paid plan, along with unlimited receipts and everything else.
